5 Most Popular Basketball Video Game Series of all Time
We see many basketball video games being released each year. If the first edition gets wide acclaim, then we can expect the series and sequels as well. Some of those series overall have got exceptional success and people found them extremely enjoyable to play. So here is a list of the most popular basketball video game series of all time.
NBA 2K
NBA 2K is the most popular basketball video game series in recent years. It is developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2k Sports. Since 1999, the publishers are coming out with a new installment each year and with each installment, the game is looking more improved and refined
It was the NBA Live that started to work on the basics while 2k series focuses on the details. So, now we can experience an almost real NBA atmosphere, see real looking (almost) NBA stars with their trademark moves, freedom to perform a number of basketball skills and enjoy better visual and sound effects. In NBA 2K, their are more functions and options than any other game.
NBA Live
NBA Live has been produced by renowned publishers EA Sports. It was one of the first basketball video games to have more realistic player faces, better player movements, better animations and graphics and intense 5 on 5 action. Over the years, it has been ranked as one of the best basketball video games. But now it’s facing a dip in popularity as no more installment has been released since 2010.
NBA Street
As its name suggests, the video game is based on streetball concept where NBA players are given outdoor locations to play basketball instead of the formal NBA courts. Its an extreme fun to see NBA player stepping into a streetballer shoe and executing extravagant moves.
The game is developed by EA Canada and published by EA Sports Big. The first game (NBA Street) was released in 2001. Since then, 3 more volumes have been released (NBA Street Vol. 2, NBA Street V3 and NBA Street Homecourt).
NBA Jam
NBA Jam is also based around unrealistic and exaggerated play. The first release featured 2 on 2 gameplay but in later years standard 5 on 5 basketball was also introduced and various new modes were also incorporated. It is especially a treat for those who like to play extreme action packed basketball with loose rules. After the first installment in1993, 9 more have been released to date.
NCAA Basketball/NCAA March Madness
The game centered around college basketball. It was produced by EA Sports and considered the biggest rival of another college basketball video game, College Hoops by 2k publishers. The main thing about the game is that designers have worked on minor things which we use to see in a NCAA level basketball. Till 2008, the game was released under the name of NCAA March Madness but in 2009 publishers changed its name to NCAA Basketball.
