Parties fail to reach settlement, now NBA regular season is in jeopardy- latest basketball news
Players and owners failed to end a three months stretched lockout despite having a number of meetings. As a result, remaining 114 preseason games have been called off and there is a threat that the first two weeks of the regular season will also be canceled, if owners, players and league officials don’t agreed to talk again in near future.
NBA regular season is scheduled to start on Nov. 1 but the first two weeks are in jeopardy unless a labor deal is made till Monday. League commissioner has announced that the first two weeks of the NBA regular season will be canceled if the lockout is not resolved by October 10. NBA player’s union president Derek Fisher also reckon Tuesday a” very huge day” for making a decision about the start of the regular season. Unfortunately, no additional meetings are scheduled between the parties as they have already been met twelve times since the start of the lockout in July1and they have given no indication of meeting anytime soon.
If situation remains the same, then it would be the first time since 1998 when regular season will be curtailed due to labor crisis. In 1998, the season was reduced to the 50 games for the similar reason. Reduction of the games will make the fans disappointed and also cost both sides million of dollars. Commissioner David Stern is not too much optimistic about the betterment, he said. “We’re ready to meet and discuss any subject anyone wants to talk about. We’d like not to lose the first two weeks of the season, but it doesn’t look good.”
