Pelicans Rally to Beat Spurs, Extend Win Streak to 7
New Orleans Pelicans sealed yet another victory on Wednesday night as they went on to beat San Antonio Spurs 121-116.
Rallying from a 15-point deficit in second half, Pelicans’ Anthony Davis managed to grab an offensive rebound late and helped his team win the game. The win extended Pelicans’ winning streak to seven games and put them in at No. 5 in the Western Conference standings alonside Portland.
Anthony Davis finished the game with 26 points and 15 rebounds while Jrue Holiday added 25 points.
Meanwhile, Spurs continues to loss their key players. After forward Kawhi Leonard’s quad injury and center Pau Gasol’s bruised left knee, LaMarcus Aldridge sprained his right ankle in the first quarter while attempting to defend Rajon Rondo’s driving layup. He returned in the end of the first half, but could not stay long and later ruled out of the game. Aldrige scored 8 points and grabbed 3 rebounds. The injury also ended his 59-game streak of scoring in double figures.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was ejected from the game at just 47 seconds into the third quarter as he was arguing with the officials.
Then came the fourth quarter which is when the Pelicans fought back and overcame the 15 point deficit thanks mainly to Anthony Davis’ efforts. Anthony Davis ended up the month of February averaging 35 points and 13 rebounds. Besides Davis, Moses Malone is the only player in the last 40 years to accomplish that feat.
Manu Ginobili led the Spurs with 13 points off the bench while Dejounte Murray scored 11 points in the first half.
