Spurs’ Tony Parker set to play in France- latest basketball news
San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker has signed a contract with French club ASVEL Villeurbanne and he will be going to play in France during the NBA lockout. He will get a mere $1,995 per month for his services which is nothing in comparison to his $1 million per month salary with the NBA. Parker said “I”ll be playing nearly for free … If I play the entire season, we’ll go for the title.”
Parker is French born; he is the vice president and co-owner of the club and he seems to be quite satisfied on the deal. “For me it is a big honor to return to France and it is a logical choice to play for ASVEL” he said.
“I had a rich offer from China and an important one from Barcelona, but I said since the beginning I would have played just in France.”
The 29-year-old Parker has won three NBA titles with the San Antonio Spurs and he is a three-time All-Star as well.
He is expected to play for ASVEL on October 14 against Paris-Levallois. Parker played for France during the EuroBasket and he performed quite well in the tournament, he led France to a third place finish and also confirmed a spot in next summer’s pre-Olympics qualifying tournament.
