The 16 Hour Marathon Meeting ends without any Progress but more Talks Planned- Latest NBA Newas
The marathon NBA negotiations ended without making any significant progress towards a new labor deal.
NBA owners and players negotiated with the federal mediator George Cohen in a 16 hours long meeting but could not emerged with the collective bargaining agreement. The meeting was not a complete disappointment as both sides have decided to continue the talks on Wednesday.
On Tuesday NBA labor talks were stretched to 16 hours that makes it the longest discussion session since the lockout started in July 1.
George Cohen, who was appointed director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in 2009, met with the sides individually at their offices Monday before both brought their full bargaining committees to a hotel Tuesday.
The sides have been divided mostly by two issues, the division of revenues and the structure of the salary cap system. Both sides wants to have 53 percent share in baskektball-related income. The players are also opposing hard salary cap.
Stern said last week that he wanted a breakthrough Tuesday, if not then he expects more games to be canceled. Already two weeks of the regular season have been wiped out.
Before both sides left the meeting federal mediator George Cohen requisted them to refrain from making public comments. According to the statement of an official “Both sides have agreed” to stay quiet.
