NBA Stars who were hated when they acted in movies
People find it very disappointing when they see the poor on screen performances of their on court heroes. The question is who takes such a daring decision of casting those hoopsters in the movies that does not have any potential of acting. Like Shaquille O’Neal, he does not seem to have natural acting talent. ‘Blue Chips’ was a good movie, but what about the next project. He did ‘Kazaam‘ that was considered to be the worst movie ever made and one of the reasons of its failure was the poor acting. Than came ‘Steel’, a superhero movie, that also performed poorly at the box office and received negative reviews mainly because of the bad acting of leading character John Henry irons (of course Shaquille O’Neal). The movie brought a Razzie Award nomination for the Worst Actor for Shaq.
Another Basketball super star, Dennis Rodman made his silver screen debut in 1997, with ‘Double Team’, a bad taste action movie; it earned Rodman three awards, the worst supporting actor, worst new star and worst screen couple (Rodman & Van Damme). Then he played a leading role in the movie called ‘Simon Sez’, another worst movie to watch, currently holds 82 spot at IMDb (Internat Movie Database)bottom 100 worst movies. His third movie ‘Cutaway’ was also a critical and commercial disaster.
Darius Miles’ ‘The Perfect Score’ did less than a modest business at box office, most of the critics panned the movie for excessive use of inappropriate words and language. Neither the script was too captivating nor was the acting. Darius Miles performance was not the stand out and his presence didn’t have any positive impact on the movie.
And how can we forget ‘My Giant’, former NBA player, Gheorghe Muresan’s movie here. Yet another movie that is liked by few but criticized by the most for its storyline, mindless humor, for not having enough comic situations and wooden acting of Gheorghe Muresan.
The moral is, don’t try those things that are beyond your capacity and potential. There is no point in doing a thing that is completely unfamiliar and even worst is repeating it again and again without any success.
