Top 10 Largest NBA Arenas
Basketball is played on a much smaller field than outdoor sports. These fields or arenas have relatively less seating capacity. Anyhow, we have made a list of those NBA arenas, which have the largest seating capacity.
1. The Palace of Auburn Hills
The Palace of Auburn Hills is the largest NBA arena by capacity. It can accommodate maximum 22,076 numbers of spectators. It has been the home arena of Detroit Pistons since 1988.
2. United Center
United Center is the second largest NBA arena which has the seating capacity of 20,916. Besides Chicago Bulls, United Center is the home arena of Chicago Blackhawks of hockey league. It is the largest arena in the United States in terms of size; per year more than 200 events are organized in the arena.
3. Quicken Loans Arena
Quicken Loans comes in third on the list of largest NBA arenas, which has the capacity of 20.562. Previously, the arena was known as Gund Arena at the name of the former owner. In 2005, the new owners spent a huge amount of money on the renovation of the arena and upgrading of the systems.
4. Wells Fargo Center (Philadelphia)
Wells Fargo Center is ranked fourth on the list of largest capacity NBA arena, with the seating capacity of 20,444. The arena offers high class facilities to the visitors as it is equipped with a large number of luxury suits and a variety of restaurants.
5. Verizon Center
Verizon Center is the home arena of Washington Wizards which has the capacity of 20,278. The construction was started in 1995 with purely private funding. Alongside NBA games, professional wrestling, boxing and concerts are also held in the arena.
6. Rose Garden (Arena)
Rose Garden (Arena) has seating configuration at 19,980 for a basketball game. The construction of the arena was started in 1993 and completed at the cost of $268 million dollar. Rose Garden has been used as the home of Portland Trail Blazers since 1995.
7. EnergySolutions Arena
EnergySolutions Arena is located in Salt Lake City; it can hold up to 19,911 people. The arena is popular not only for organizing basketball games but also for skating competitions and concerts.
8. Air Canada Centre
The only NBA arena located outside the America, has the seating capacity of 19,800. The first basketball game of the history of Air Canada Center was a complete sell-out, where Toronto Raptors beat Vancouver Grizzlies 102-87.
9. Madison Square Garden
The multi purpose indoor arena of Madison Square Garden is situated in New York City which can hold up to 19,763 people. It is the second oldest NBA arena, following the Oracle Arena. It is more than just a basketball arena; per year approximately 320 events are held over here. The arena hosts not only basketball, ice hockey, wrestling, boxing games and concerts but also known for stage shows and graduation ceremonies.
10. American Airlines Arena
American Airlines Arena is the home arena of Miami Heat. The team played its first game on January 2, 2000, against Orlando Magic. The arena can accommodate 19,600 spectators.
