Top 7 Highest Scoring Games in NBA History
In basketball, a high scoring game doesn’t necessarily means a high quality game but for many this the real game and real entertainment. If anyone is curious to know the highest scoring games in NBA history, then here is a list of these games.
1. Detroit Pistons vs. Denver Nuggets (37O points)
Detroit Pistons and Denver Nuggets posted a combined score of 370, on December 13, 1983 and set the record for the most points scored in an NBA game. In this triple overtime game, Pistons and Nuggets scored 186 and 184 points respectively and made 136 field goals. A total of 12 players, 6 from each team scored in double figure. Isiah Thomas was the top scorer for the Pistons with 47 points. For the Nuggets, Kiki Vandeweghe scored 51 points while Alex English finished with 47 points.
2. San Antonio Spurs vs. Milwaukee Bucks (337 points)
On March 6, 1982, San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks combined for 337 points in a triple overtime game, making it the second highest scoring game in league’s history. In the game, Spurs routed the Bucks by a score of 171-166. Spurs’ George Gervin led the individual scoring with 50 points while his teammate Mike Michell scored 45 points. For the Bucks, Brian Winters was the highest scorer with 42 points.
3. Denver Nuggets vs. Golden State Warriors (320 points)
It was the highest non-overtime game in the history of NBA where Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors scored 320 points collectively. The game was played on November 2, 1990, at McNichols Arena. Despite 37 points of Orlando Woolridge and 33 of Walter Davis, Nuggets lost the game to the Warriors 162-158. Warriors Chris Mullin was the highest scorer of the game with38 points while teammates Mitch Richmond and Tim Hardaway added 29 and 32 points respectively.
4. Phoenix Suns vs. New Jersey Nets (318 points)
On March 2, 2006, Phoenix Suns defeated New Jersey Nets in double overtime by a score of 161-157. Steve Nash scored a career high 42 points for the Suns. On the other hand, Nets point guard Jason Kidd achieved the 78th triple douple of his career as he finished with 38 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists. Other big scorers for the both sides were the Shawn Marion with 33 points and Vince Carter with 31 points.
4. Denver Nuggets vs. San Antonio Spurs (318 points)
On January 11, 1984, Denver Nuggets defeated the San Antonio Spurs by 163-155, combining a total of 318 points. This was the second highest scoring game that didn,t went into the overtime and finished within the regular time. Nuggets Kiki Vandeweghe scored 50 points in the game.
6. Philadelphia Warriors vs. New York Knicks (316 points)
Philadelphia Warriors and New York Knicks played a game on March 2, 1962, at Hersheypark Arena. This game is mostly remembered for the 100 points of the Wilt Chamberlain but not for the fact that it was the 6th highest scoring game in the history of NBA. Both teams put up 316 points together and the game ended on the victory of Warriors over Knicks by 169-147.
6. Phoenix Suns vs. Denver Nuggets (316 points)
On November 10, 1990, Phoenix Suns defeated the Denver Nuggets by 173-143. In the game, both teams pilled 316 points collectively and tied the record for the 6th highest scoring game held by Warriors and Knicks in 1962. For the Suns, Kevin Johnson and Kenny Battle scored 23 points each. Overall, Orlando Woolridge topped the game with 40 points, 27 of them came in the first half of the game.
