Top 7 NBA Players with Most Minutes Played in a Single Game
It has happened before on numerous occasions that a player stayed on court for the entire 48 minutes during a game. However, a player can play more minutes if a game enters the overtime period. So, here is the list of those players who played most minutes in a single NBA game.
1. Dale Ellis- 69 minutes
Seattle SuperSonics player Dale Ellis set an All-time NBA record against Milwaukee Bucks on Nov. 9, 1989. He played 69 minutes in a game that went in to the 5 overtime periods. He also scored 53 points in the game, a career best for Ellis and 20 points out of 53 were scored in the overtime period.
2. Xavier McDaniel- 68 minutes
That same game which was played on Nov. 9, 1989, between the Seattle and Milwaukee, Dale Ellis teammate Xavier McDaniel spent 68 minute on the court. He fall just 1 minute short of the record most minutes played.
3. Norm Nixon- 64 minutes
Norm Nixon played 64 minutes played in a four-ovetime game on Jan. 29, 1980 between the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers. The game was won by the opposite side Cavaliers 154-153.
3. Sleepy Floyd- 64 minutes
Seven years later, Norm’s record was equalled by Sleepy Floyd, a Golden State Warriors player, in a game against New Jersey Nets. The game took place on Feb. 1, 1987 in which Floyd contributed with 29 points and 13 assists.
5. Vince Carter- 63 minutes
On Feb, 23, 2001, a game was played between Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings which lasted for 63 minutes. Raptors, Vince Carter played every single minute of that game and had 38 points and 10 rebounds in the game.
6. Jay Humphries- 62 minutes
In that game which was held on Bradley Center, in 1989, Dale Ellis and Xavier McDaniel played 69 and 68 minutes respectively. One of their opponents, Jay Humphires stayed on the court for 62 minutes. He scored only 11 points in the game but it was his team Bucks that went on to win the game.
7. Jalen Rose- 61 minutes
Jalen Rose played 61 minutes in a triple overtime game against Houston Rockets on March 13, 2001. He had 39 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assits in the game. Earlier, Jalen Rose missed the first few games of the season due to a wrist injury.
7. Brian Grant- 61 minutes
Briant Grant played 61 minutes in a 4-overtime game against Phoenix Suns on November 14, 1997. Grant scored 34 points and pulled down 17 rebounds in that game but his team Portland Trail Blazers lost the game to the Suns 140-139.
