5 Best NBA Draft Classes Ever
Each year NBA draft provides exposure to 60 new players. Obviously not every single player possesses elite ability but it is a fact that each draft class has a certain kind of reputation. Some draft classes seems to have many superstar talents while others lack it.
In this article i will discuss top 5 draft classes in NBA history and it is based not on the reputation but on how the players actually turned out and what they have achieved in their career (NBA championships, NBA finals MVP, Regular Season MVP, NBA All-Star, Hall of Fame inductees, leaders in statistical categories).
1984 NBA Draft
This draft produced the legends of the game. Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley and John Stockton all had extremely successful careers. All four have been inducted in the Basketball Hall of Fame. The 3rd overall pick Michael Jordan is a six time NBA championship. He was named Finals MVP and regular season MVP six and five times respectively. The 1st overall pick Hakeem Olajuwon won two NBA championships, two NBA finals MVP and one NBA MVP awards. Then there are Charles Barkley and John Stockton who do not have any championship ring to show their real capabilities but they are all-timeĀ leaders in various major statistical categories.
2003 NBA Draft
The 2003 draft featured LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. LeBron James is the arguably the biggest player of this draft. He can play multiple positions with great perfection and he is widely considered as the most versatile player in NBA history. Two NBA championships, 2 NBA finals MVP awards, 4 NBA MVP awards and 9 NBA all-Star games are some of the greatest highlights from his career so far. His teammates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are also very reliable players and both are extremely effective in supporting roles. Then comes Carmelo Anthony who can snatch a few scoring titles and lead his team to the playoffs but he has never been able to win a championship despite all of his impressive offensive play.
1996 NBA Draft
The 1996 NBA draft was another star-studded draft that included Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson and Steve Nash. Kobe Bryant is one of the best players the Lakers have ever produced. He is five time NBA champion, two time finals MVP and a record 15 times NBA All-Star. He own numerous other records as well. Though the first overall pick Allen Iverson and 13th overall pick Steve Nash could not achieve what Kobe Bryant had but both have been quite consistent players over the years. Steve Nash ranks fourth on all time list of assist leaders while Allen Iverson is mostly known for his stealing ability and he led the league in steals for three consecutive seasons.
1987 NBA Draft
This draft gave us players like David Robinson, Scottie Pippen and Reggie Miller. Let’s start with Scottie Pippen. Scottie Pippen is 6 time NBA champion and he widely regarded as one of the best defenders in NBA history. Then Reggie Miller is one of the most prolific three point shooters in NBA history. The 1st overall pick David Robinson was a well-rounded player who was huge and agile at the same time. You will find his name almost any list of top 10 NBA centers.
2008 NBA Draft
