5 Biggest Comebacks in NBA History
There have been many great comebacks in the history of NBA but following are the largest overall in terms of overcoming a huge point deficit.
36 points — Utah Jazz vs. Denver Nuggets (Nov. 27, 1996)
Utah Jazz pulled off the biggest ever comeback on Nov. 27, 1996, when they overcome a 36-point deficit against the Denver Nuggets at home. The visiting Denver Nuggets started off well and led the first two quarters by 18 and 16 points respectively. Utah Jazz, who were trailing 70-36 at halftime made an unexpected come back and defeated Denver Nuggets 107-103.
35 points — Sacramento Kings vs. Chicago Bulls (Dec. 21, 2009)
The second-biggest comeback belongs to Sacramento Kings. On Dec, 21, 2009, Kings were playing against the Chicago Bulls at United Center. They were down by as high as 35 points with less than 9 minutes remaining in the third quarter. But despite trailing for almost three quarters, they fought their way back and beat Chicago Bulls by four points.
29 points — Milwaukee Bucks vs. Atlanta Hawks (Nov. 25, 1977)
The third largest comeback happened on Nov. 25, 1977, when Milwaukee trailed the Atlanta Hawks by 29 points in the fourth quarter and rallied to win, 117-115. This is also the largest fourth quarter comeback in NBA history.
29 points — Dallas Mavericks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves (Dec. 30, 2008)
Dallas Mavericks pulled off a huge comeback win over the Minnesota on Dec. 30, 2008. Down by 29 points early in the third quarter, Mavericks bounced back, thanks to the Jason Terry’s 24 points in the second half and knocked off Minnesota 107-100.
29 points — Phoenix Suns vs. Boston Celtics (Dec. 5, 2003)
It was yet another 29 point comeback in the history of NBA when Phoenix Suns pulled out a stunning “come from behind” victory over Boston Celtics after trailing 65-36 in the third quarter. Suns’ Stephon Marbury scored 34 points and hit back to back three-pointers in the final three minutes as well. With that win, Suns surpassed their previous largest comeback of 27 points also.
