Most Finals Appearances by NBA Franchise
Los Angeles Lakers have made 31 final appearances. They made their first finals appearance in 1948-49 season under the name of Minneapolis Lakers (their original location). That same year, they won the championship as well. Initially, players like Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Magic Johnson helped Lakers in reaching NBA finals. While, in recent years, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant carried them to the finals.
Boston Celtics franchise have made finals 21 times predominantly when Bill Russell was playing for the Boston Celtics. They had 10 consecutive appearances from 1956-57 to 1965-66, in the Bill Russell era.
In the 65 years of NBA history, mostly Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics dominated the league. Other teams reached the finals less frequently. Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota TimberWolves, New Orleans Hornets, Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Clippers, Charlotte Bobcats and Denver Nuggets have never made the finals thus far.
