NBA Players Uniform
The players uniform consists of jersey, short, socks and sneakers. Jersey contains team name, player name and player’s number. They are made of stretched material so that players can move freely. Nowadays, players wear jerseys that are neither too close to the body nor too loose. Jerseys are also very lighter and have ability to absorb all the moisture or sweating quickly. NBA players usually wear sleeveless jerseys.
In the past, players used to wear short and tighter shorts but now they wear relatively long and loose shorts. It was the Michael Jordan who brought the fashion of long shorts in 1980s.
There is no hard and fast rule regarding socks. Socks can vary in length. Players can wear both high or low socks and of any color. Earlier they used to wear knee high socks.
Players can wear sneakers of their own choice. It depends on which brand they are comfortable with. Some players have their own signature shoes and some like to wear those shoes which they have been endorsing.
Who Designs and Develops NBA Players Uniform
On April 11, 2006, a contract was made between NBA and Adidas. Since then, Adidas designs and develop the uniforms of all 30 NBA teams. They provide apparels for Women National Basketball Association, NBA All-Star team and NBA D-League as well. The uniform manufacturer follows a specific guideline to make sure all players are in compliance. All teams ordered their uniforms about six months prior to the start of the season and uniforms have been tested before being worn in actual games. Each year Adidas tries to introduce more improved and more comfortable uniforms with innovations. Recently, Adidas introduced short-sleeved jerseys for Golden State Warriors.
