NBA Players who have won Regular Season MVP, Finals MVP and Championship in the Same Year
This is a list of those exclusive individuals who played extraordinarily well during a particular season and final series, led their team to win a championship and earned Most Valuable Player, Finals MVP and championship together in the same year.
Willis Reed
Willis Reed was the first ever player in the history to won NBA Most Valuable Player Award, NBA finals MVP Award and NBA title in the same year. He got both the awards and the title with Knicks in 1970.
Kareem Abdul Jabbar
Kareem Abdul Jabbar won six championships, two finals MVP and six regular season MVP awards but only once he has been able get these three honors together in the same year. It was the 1970- 71 season when he won all three with Milwaukee Bucks.
Moses Malone
Moses Malone picked up regular season MVP, Finals MVP and NBA title in 1983 as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. He was the only player in NBA history who won back to back MVP awards with two different teams (previously with the Houston Rockets in 1982).
Larry Bird
Larry Bird, the former Celtics forward, achieved this ultimate feat twice in his career, in 1984 and after that in 1986, on both occasions with the Boston Celtics.
Magic Johnson
Magic Johnson won double MVPs and a championship in 1986-87 season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He also knocked the game- winning shot in the finals series against the Boston Celtics and led the team in winning a championship.
Michael Jordan
Winning both MVPs and championship once is special but what about doing it four times in the career. This has been done by perhaps the greatest basketball player of all time called Michael Jordan. He won league MVP, finals MVP and Championship four-times in 1991, 1992, 1996 and 1998.
Hakeem Olajuwon
Hakeem Olajuwon completely dominated the 1993-94 season. He won both the MVP awards, defensive player of the year award and championship and became the only player in NBA history to get all these honors together in the same year.
Shaquille O’Neal
For his all-round performance in 1999-00 season, Shaquille O’Neal earned both the regular season and finals MVP awards and an NBA title. That particular season, he also became an All-Star game MVP and a scoring champion too.
Tim Duncan
In 2002-03 NBA season, Tim Duncan walked away with the leagues MVP and the finals MVP awards. He also won a championship with Spurs that year. That made him only the ninth player to get these three honors together in the same year.
LeBron James
LeBron James is the latest to join this elite group by winning regular season MVP, finals MVP and a championship with Miami Heat in 2012.
