NBA Slam Dunk Contest: Winners List
Slam dunk contest primarily aims to entertain the crowd where selected NBA players participate and showcase their dunking skills and abilities. The competition is held yearly during the NBA All-Star Weekend and the winner is decided through the voting of the fans (through text messaging or via twitter).
The First Slam Dunk Contest Ever
American Basketball Association (ABA) introduced the concept of slam dunk contest in 1976. The inaugural competition was held in Denver, Colorado, featuring notable players of the time like Julius Erving, David Thompson, George Gervin, Artis Gilmore and Larry Kenon where Julius Arving from New York Nets became the very first champion of the Slam Dunk contest. No further competition was organized in next eight years due to the ABA-NBA intermix.
