Tooth injuries are hard to prevent in any sports especially in contact sports like basktball, rugby and soccer. Players experience tooth injuries on regular basis. Among those injuries, probably the worst is losing the tooth by some kind of collision with other player. Other injuries can recover steadily but once you lose a teeth, it can not grow back.
Here, we take a look at some of the worst broken tooth incidents in NBA history.
1. Danny Granger
Date: November 1, 2008
Game: Indiana Pacers vs. Boston Celtics
Danny Granger lost his two front teeth in the game against Boston Celtics. It was the fourth quarter of the game when Paul Pierce fall on him while both were diving on the floor after a loose ball. Graner smahed his face into the ground and as a result, his two front teeth were shattered. Despite such a massive collision, he did not missed much action and returned to play after short while.
2. Carl Landry
Date : December 18, 2009
Game: Houston Rockets vs. Dallas Mavericks
Carl Landry took a nasty elbow from Dirk Nowitzki in the second quarter of the game and got several teeth knocked out as a result. The incident happened when Dirk was about to jump to score a basket and Landry fould him. Unfortunately, he caught by the elbow of Dirk Nowitzki. Carl was immediately taken for the treatment and he went through six hours of surgery. Dirk’s condition was no better than the Carl. His elbow got hurt because the pieces of Landry’s teeth stuck in his arm. Landry was back in the action two days later while, Dirk also took some time to come back.
3. Wilt Chamberlain
Date: February 11, 1960
Game: St. Louis Hawks vs. Philadelphia Warriors
Wilt Chamberlain suffered a severe teeth injury when he got elbowed by Clyde Lovellette during a Hawks- Warriors game. He was hit so hard that he lost not only few of his teeth but also suffered a blood poisoning infection. he had to visite hospital for surgical treatment and it troubled him for the rest of his life. In fact, Chamberlain was pulled, shoved, poked and grabbed many times through out his career.
4. A. C. Green
Date: February 25, 1996
Game: Phoenix Suns vs. New York Knicks
A. C. Green had his teeth dislodged when J. R. Reid hit him a virious elbow right in the mouth during the fourth quarter of the game. This was quite a fatal blow but he did not missed a single game and wore a mask for the next few games as a proctection. Though, he was not the same kind of a player after this injury. On the other hand, J. R. Reid was suspended fortwo games and fined $10,000 for intentionally throwing an elbow and knocking out two of A. C. Green’s teeth.
5. Anthony Morrow
Date: February 20, 2012
Game: New Jersey Nets vs. New York Knicks
Anthony Morrow lost four teeth after taking an elbow from Carmelo Anthony. He was hit in the fourth quarter of the game when he was trying to grab a rebound. It appeared to be an extremely nasty hit. Some how, Morrow managed to stay in the game but no foul was called against the Carmelo.
