    These are the head coaches who compiled most number of wins in the history of NBA, not precisely with a single team but with multiple teams they worked with. They are highly respected for their contributions to the game and they are also the members of basketball hall of fame.

    1. Don Nelson (1335 wins)

    Nelson coached multiple teams in his 26 years prolonged career and won 1335 games, most by any coach in the league. He is also included in the list of top 10 coaches in NBA history and was named NBA coach of the year three times. But surprisingly he never won a championship in his whole coaching career.

    2. Lenny Wilkens (1332 wins)

    Wilkens spent most of his career with Seattle SuperSonics. As a coach, he won 1332 games and a championship as well with SuperSonics. He was inducted in Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame for three times, once as player in 1989, then as a coach in 1998 and lastly as an assistant coach of  1996 US olympic team.

    3. Jerry Sloan (1221 wins)

    There are 1221 wins to the credit of Jerry Sloan. He played 10 seasons with Chicago Bulls and stared his coaching career in 1980 also with the Bulls. In 1998, he joined Utah Jazz as coach and served the team for about 13 season.  He is the only coach to record 1000 wins with a single team (Utah Jazz). On Feb. 10, 2011, he resigned from his job half way through the season, since then he is not coaching any more team.

    4. Pat Riley (1210 wins)

    Pat Riley won 1210 games as a coach. After playing nine seasons in NBA, he opted to become a professional coach and remained associated with Lakers, Knicks and Miami Heat respectively. Currently, he serves Miami Heat as a president.

    5. Phil Jackson (1153 wins)

    Phil Jackson is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in NBA history. He piled up 1153 wins  and won 11 championships in his coaching career, 6 with Chicago Bulls and 5 with Los Angeles Lakers. He was also declaired NBA Coach of the Year in 1996.
