On Wednesday, Forbes released its annual NBA franchise valuation report, it discussed all 30 teams but here we will focus on top 6 teams.
1. New York Knicks
New York Knicks are now the most valuable team in NBA at $ 1.1 billion. There value increased 41% over last year, mainly because of the ongoing renovation of Madison Square Garden. The renovation helped them in increasing the revenue and profit. Also better TV ratings, more apparel sale and better play in 2012 were the key factors to earn $83 million profit, $243 million revenue and a spot at the top of the list.
2. Los Angeles Lakers
Last year Los Angeles Lakers topped the list but not anymore. They slip down to second place as their value rose mere 11%. They are worth $1 billion, according to Forbes. Their value is expected to rise soon after making a new TV rights deal with Time Warner Cable in 2011. Time Warner Cable outbid fox sports and agreed to pay $3.6 billion for the next 20 years .
3. Chicago Bulls
With highest attendance average and fourth best TV ratings, Chicago Bulls are third on this year’s list. They are valued at $800 million. They also led the league both in team merchandise and most popular player jersey last season.
4. Boston Celtics
Boston Celtics replace Dallas Mavericks as the fourth most valuable team. They are worth $730 million, an 51% increase in value over the last year. They had the third highest average ticket price in NBA history.
5. Dallas Mavericks
Dallas Mavericks are valued at $685 million as they gained 38% in the last season. Great playoff record since 2000 and Dirk Nowitzki, a star player on the roster helped them in maintaining a position in top 5 most valuable teams.
6. Miami Heat
Presence of Lebron James and team’s third appearance in the NBA finals lifted the TV rating of Miami Heat. They are worth $625 million, according to the report. Also, they saw an increase in their season tickets sales.
