Top 7 NBA Players with Most Unathletic Physique
Overweight, oversize, out of shape, fat, bulky, obese players (or whatever else you would like to call them) are found rarely in basketball as this sport demands a great amout of athleticsim, fitness and agility. It becomes extremely hard for such players to compete against those players who are fit and trim, especially if they are playing in a big league like NBA where players are highly professional and agile. Here we take a look at those players in NBA history who had an exceedingly unathletic physique and who just not look like a professional sportsmen because of their huge body.
1) Oliver Miller
Oliver Miller was perhaps the most overweighted player in the history of NBA, who ballooned to almost 375 lbs at one stage of his career. He could become a better center (if not the greatest) but his weight problem seriously impeded his mobility and also made him look extremely bulky and out of shape.
2) Shaquille O’Neal
Shaquille O’Neal weighed above 300 lbs through out his career, but his obesity affected neither his game nor his popularity. Despite being so heavy he was very quick in his movement which is a strang thing to associate with a huge player of 360 pounds.
3) Eddy Curry
Eddy Curry looks comparatively slimmer these days but few months ago he was quite oversized and obese. During his Knicks tenure, he had put on a lot of weight. Aftert the Knicks released him, he auditioned for Miami Heat in early 2011 and he was about 350 pounds. He worked hard to reduce his weight and now he has been shed almost 100 pounds from his body.
4) Michael Sweetney
Sweetney was not too overweight when he entered the NBA. Over the years, he gained enormous weight and grown into a big fat man who has a large abdomen as well. His NBA career is almost over now as he is not a part of any NBA team since 2007. Mostly, he is found playing in minor overseas leagues.
5) Robert Traylor
The Late Robert Traylor was another heavy player who battled weight issues through out his career. Despite cutting down a lot of weight before his NBA selection, he always struggled to stay fit and to be in shape. He played merely seven seasons in NBA.
6) Jerome James
Jerome James “Big Snacks”, struggled with weight and injury issues throughout his career. He stands 7 ft 1 inches tall and weighs 300 pounds and is believed to be one of most unfit and obese players in NBA history. He missed more and played less games in NBA. Except for his rookie season with Sonics, he performed poorly most of the times and Since 2009 he is not been able to play any game in NBA.
7) Dexter Pittman and Keith Gallon
It is very diffcult for me to rank two of them seperately as they look quite similar in their size, height and physique.
Dexter Pittman weighed way over 350 pounds before he joined the NBA. Intense workouts helped him cutting down almost 100 pounds. Still, he doesn’t fits in with the definition of an anthletic physique.
Tiny Gallon is also battling with weight problem and looks extremely out of shape. He was measured 302 pounds at the pre draft camp. Anyhow, he is just 21 years old and appears to be a bright prospect. He has to burn a lot of fat if he has to stay and perform well in the league.
