What is the Importance of NBA D-League?
NBA Development League is a minor league that is affiliated with National Basketball Association. The league is not as popular as NBA itself. D-League players don’t get much recognition and they are not paid as much as NBA or overseas leagues pay. Still D-League has its own importance.
D-League provides young players an opportunity to showcase their talent and help them getting in NBA. Every college basketball player wants to be a part of NBA and dreams of becoming a NBA star. Usually, players picked in early stages of draft straight make an NBA roster while others (mostly second round picks) have to work hard to get an opportunity. They have to go through D-league to prove themselves.
D league is not import only for rookies but for any player. It can help out any player at different points of his career. The players who are waived by their team can join d league to make comeback in NBA.
Former draftees who have never been picked by any franchise can also fulfill their dream. They can play as many years as possibly they can until any NBA franchise call them up.
If a player returns from a major injury that keeps him out of the play for a long period of time then team can also sent him down to D-League. In D-League he can practice, workout, have a feel for the game and can make his way back to the NBA.
The players who went undrafted can also enter NBA by giving their best shot in D-League tryouts. Tryouts held in various locations each year. All those undrafted free agents who want to play professional basketball can attend tryouts and can make most of whatever little opportunity they have got.
Every year many players have been benefited by the D-League. Though, it is difficult to impress NBA scouts but if they recognize the abilities and efforts of a player then an NBA franchise can sign him to a 10 day contract or can offer him even a larger contract.
